St. Joseph’s Altar
St. Joseph’s Altar
It was during a great famine in Sicily that the St. Joseph's Altar had its beginning. The Sicilian people sought the powerful intercession of their patron saint, St. Joseph, to bring an end to the suffering that the famine was inflicting on the land. God honored St. Joseph's intercession, bringing an end to the famine. Altars were built on which food was placed and later distributed to those in need.
Today's St. Joseph Altars are decorated with a variety of food, many of which, are baked into the shape of Christian symbols.
Come inside and explore the St. Joseph Altar at the Church of Notre Dame, see the many gifts, read the prayers, and meet the people who have helped bring this wonderful Catholic tradition to our parish.
